I've just finished a set of six different original cyanotypes on a vintage theme, on scalloped five-inch square cards with matching white envelopes. They are printed from authentic botanical Victorian prints and reworked with vintage frames with a contemporary twist. The cards are blank so one can add a personal or seasonal message.
The original hand-made prints were done on quality watercolour paper treated with light-sensitive materials and exposed to the Warwickshire sunlight to bring out the shades of Prussian blue associated with this form of alternative photography. These are Christmas cards but as they are made from original cyanotypes, they could be framed at a later date. As with all prints, this is best not placed in direct sunlight or anywhere damp so as to preserve the original hues.
I've been making cyanotype prints from botanical specimens. These are a little different. They are cyanotypes based on digital negatives which means one can have a little fun, introducing a vintage element.
The mistletoe, pine cone and Christmas tree are all original Victorian prints that I've dressed up with vintage frames - all digitally remastered, as they say. The digital negative is then placed on treated paper and exposed to UV. Find them on Folksy - special deal (free postage) this week!
